The Terrible Condition of Leucadia's Hwy101

The entire strip of Leucadia's historic 101 coast highway is in horrible condition. It is plagued by large cracks and small potholes and scared by poor patch jobs. The entire strip needs to be repaved and repainted.

Thousands of cars, trucks, motorcycles and buses use Leucadia's coast highway. Everyday the highway slips into further disrepair and this in turn, puts extra wear and tear on our tires and lowers the fuel efficiency of our vehicles. The poor driving conditions also create extra noise pollution, making sidewalk dining unpleasant (the aggressive train horns aggravates this as well).

This Thursday evening at city hall is the second major Leucadia Streetscape workshop. I am interested to see what concepts are proposed for our beloved coast highway. Hopefully we won't have to wait too many years for improvements to be made.

The Leucadia Blvd/Hwy101 intersection can't wait much longer, it needs to be repaved and repainted ASAP.

  1. Next time you turn left from L101 onto Leucadia BL, notice how many cars (illegally) cross the double-yellow line. It is very awkward not to.

  2. Heading west towards Beacons is a great place to get sideswiped by a car in the unpainted left lane who suddenly decides to go to Beacons too. ahhhh!

  3. The deterioration of the streets is so exciting. Soon my ideology will reign across Leucadia. Pot holes will abound and ruts will stop hummers in their tracks.

    HA HA ha HAAAA!

It will make driving so miserable that even you evil automobile addicted gluttonous dweebs will have to walk!

Cardiff is getting a quiet zone this year.

When is Council going to fix Leucadia’s death trap and make it a quiet zone?

Are they going to wait until they spend $10 million more on Firestation remodels and $60 million Plus on a Regional Sports Park?

Where do they get these priorities?

How can we form a special interest group to bribe the Council the way that these other lobbyists’ must?

  5. Hey kids, watch your speedometers. Two motorcycle cops have been targeting Hwy 101 from La Costa to Encinitas Blvd using radar guns to catch speeders and for the last week I've seen someone pulled over every single day. Their nice greeting,"Hey, how are ya doin'" means you better have a couple extra hundred bucks in the bank. And considering how fast people drive along this stretch of road, I have to support the cops.

  6. I love having the motorcycle cops stop the speeders on that stretch of highway. Those in a hurry can use I-5.

  7. Those in a hurry can use I-5, otherwise ride your bike. HWY 101 should be pedestrian only.

I agree. Reverse the paradigm. Make Walking and biking first priority for that road and driving second.

Thank god I don't have a 50 pound jack hammer when I'm going to the local resturants or beach to play all day.

I like to leave my car at home as much as I can on the weekend.

    Now thats living!

Why is that "living"? Sounds really really flaky. Is there some sort of walkers' cult in Leucadia?

  12. To bike more drive less,

Please, stop driving during the week. It will be healthier for you, the flowers will start to bloom, birds will sing, and there will be less traffic on the road.

You are most of a horrible gluttonous person. FIVE days out of the week you drive and evil depression generating automobile. You are 5/7ths horrible.

I drive a Toyota Prius 5 days a week to work. Public transportation can't get me there. Sometimes I drive on Saturday--never on Sunday.

  14. I walk everyday. I walk to work and I walk to the store. I never drive and neither should you. Don't take the bus or the train because they pollute and use oil.

Mother Earth doesn't care if you only drive to work. You are still polluting and causing global warming.

Get a job that is closer or move closer to your job. You will be much happier and much more healthy.

  15. Wow-

I sense a bunch of guilty conscious out there.

I can't wait to hear all the wining when gas hits $10 per gallon because the dollar is devaluing fast then the peso in 1980.

Drive all you want, but I hope you make $300,000 per year.

I’ll see you out of your Hummers soon,

    Haaaaa!

  16. To common sense,

Is your oil consumption and CO2 pollution guilt free?

Wouldn't you use less if you lived closer to work? I sense that you are in denial.

You should be like me and sacrifice things that are inconvenient, difficult or unpleasant to swallow instead of just doing things that are convenient for you.

Sell your car and walk like me. I pay no money for Bush's oil.
