  1. Without question, one of your funniest posts.

    Good work.

  2. How about a sign that says...read the Leucadia blog.

  3. We should name the statue Pollyanna.

  4. You know, JP, I'm not sure where you're coming from but this clown reference stuff really is pathetic. How would you like it if you were running for council and were stalked by someone dressed as a clown everywhere you went? Do you think Maggie enjoyed being in this situation all the time? Do you not have any empathy for someone in her shoes? If I had been Maggie's husband I would've talked to each person responsible for this, from the guy who hired the clown, to the person who made the costume. And I think you know what I would say, man to man, if you get my drift. Those cowards would've NEVER pulled this shit on a woman. This is in really bad taste, think about it JP. You have such a great sense of humor, I don't know why you are stooping to this level. Enough is enough.

  5. Maggie had a clown follow her around hired by a disgruntled citizen(s) so now the image of a clown is verboten? Maggie is a public official and as such is going to parodied and mocked, that is part and parcel of public office. JP didn't post a sign on the statue stating "Houlihan is a Whore" -- that is a personal attack. I think Maggie is confident enough and seasoned enough to laugh at the absurdity of the desperation of her detractors and move forward. The only thing the clown did was bring more media attention to Maggie for free - obviously the work of an inept wannabe political mover and shaker with comic book aspirations.

  6. If Maggie and her husband don't like being ridicules she should get out of public office. If Maggie's husband THOUGHT HE WOULD HAVE A MAN TO MAN TALK WITH ME HE PROBABLY WOULDN'T BE HAPPY WITH THE OUTCOME.

  7. Ohhhhh, bitch slap!

  8. It's a parody of the idiots who hired the clown.

  9. JP - I think you missed the most obvious concept, the four finger salute.

  10. JP,

Are you calling members of the Ecke family idiots?

  11. word is that it was our own blog favorite candidate Bob that recommended the clown to his good Friend David to mock Maggie.

    That can't be true. Or?????

    ReplyDelete
  12. The clown worked for Bob, no?

The other clown has been reelected twice already.

    Time for term limits.

    ReplyDelete
  13. Bob, the line in the sand has been drawn. Did you or did you not have a hand in the clown haunting of Maggie? If so, please explain your motives.

  14. Yes Bondii, I had limited involvement in the clown incident. My involvement is hardly a secret and limited to passing along a phone number four years ago.

At the time I had a party planning business. Advanced Party Technologies (APT). David Meyer approached APT and asked to employ one of my Go Go dancers. I gave him her number.

I did not get paid, nor was Advanced Party Technologies contracted in any way.

Maggie knows all this as I shared the details with her long ago after she asked me point blank about my role in the debacle in 2004.

Do I regret being involved? Yes because we are talking about this four years later and not the Naylor Act as it applies to the Pacific View school ground and requested zoning change. Yes because there are bigger issues before the voters of Encinitas and No, because I proved to be right when I cautioned Meyers against hiring the clown in the first place, knowing it would surely backfire, as it did.

  17. Bondii,

Other issues we should be talking about during this campaign season include the Scripps Hospital expansion and it's impact on the nearby neighborhood, undergrounding the LOSSAN rail corridor, preserving the rural character of Olivenhain, the Cardiff specific plan, the scorched earth policy of NCTD and deforestation of Leucadia.

  18. It's all about me bitches *meow*

  19. Candidate Bob, I'm glad you mentioned Scripps hospital expansion.

These large hospitals create an orbit of smaller medical office facilities that seek to locate in close proximity to the hospitals so the doctors can see patients in their offices, and operate at the hospital.

The Pacific View location is currently zoned Public, Semi Public. Under this zoning an owner can build 60,000 sq ft of dental and or medical offices as a permitted right with no use permits required. They are entitles to do so by right and zoning.

And it gets better, with a conditional use permit, they can go to a medical office complex with double the sq.ft. That would be very hard, impossible in my opinion but they could try as they did battlestar Devore! A private developer with cuddly relationships with council may be a more determined foe than a public school district that needs to have at least some concern for the voters.

So, the city has every right to deny the zone change to residential, as is your wish. Be careful of what you ask for the residents sake. Most would prefer to see a smaller scale residential project that fits the residential neighborhood.

The district can simply quit trying to work with the neighbors and the city (two years and only headaches to date for the district) and simply exchange the property under the current zoning. That unfortunately means more than likely medical offices by a private developer.

But I'm sure we can talk the city into spending several millions of our dollars for a park for the RSPB, and gutter hippies, with a proper restroom for sure! and we get all kinds of grants and stuff to pay for it.

Then of course we can debate what kind of park for another 10 years as the intent of the Naylor act is to preserve ball fields and playgrounds.

The neighbors in Cardiff Don't seem to be to excited about ball fields for the kids.

Yes I was involved with the clown but she needed a paycheck. That's all, I just gave him a phone number. It's not Like David had been a big supporter of your campaign with strategy and contributed money and flower pac money to help you get elected and pull votes from Dennis Holtz who you opposed.

Same game different year, this time it's Maggie or Rachel that the big boys are after. Bob pulls enough votes and Danny errr Doug gets elected.

It’s not a coincidence the Maggie bashing and accusations of her freeloading have begun on the blog

  20. Thank you, Ian. You should defend your wife.

    ReplyDelete
  21. Bob, as always, thank you for your candid response. I did not know this was public fodder before I asked. So my question is, did you give a telephone number knowing it was to be used to parody Maggie, and if you did, why? As they say, the truth will set you free and freedom is the way to reality (paraphrasing the Who).

    ReplyDelete
  22. It's a parody of the idiots who hired the clown.

Could not agree more. We now know who at least some of them are.

    Breaking news on the blog!

    ReplyDelete
  23. Bondii, I gave him the number because he asked. It's that simple. At the time Maggie and I were still at odds because I ran against Dennis Holz and Christi Guerin in 2002 in a successful attempt to undo a council majority that was attempting to bully through an anti-tree policy under the guise of protecting community character. Holz failed to be re-elected.

    ReplyDelete
  24. No worries anyway. Maggie can laugh about it. Bob is toast.

Bye Bob. Nice thinking of you.

    ReplyDelete
  25. Toast? For telling the truth? About something that has long been known?

I have always been honest about this. But now instead of discussing what the city council knew about the Naylor Act and when they knew it, or efforts to allow all downtown restaurants to include beer and wine service as part of sidewalk dining, a game of gotcha has begun.

Here's an idea let's talk about the pro development voting record of the three incumbants and the recent Walgreens vote.

    ReplyDelete
  26. I agree with Bob on this. He has been more candid than any other candidate. Let's think about it. What other councilmember, or potential council member, can take the heat from this blog. I give Bob credit for that. Now onto the affairs of the CIty, please. Why didn't Sabine tell the Council about Naylor? What about Walgreens? What about the Hall property? What about the stakes Leucadia has it its self-development? These are far more imprtant issues, at least to me. Don't get blogged down into letting Jerome and gang win.

    ReplyDelete
  27. Bob - I think you have a great chance of being elected and I will support you. And you are right, the clown is old news and we should be talking about the voting record of the incumbents. Sorry to have brought it up.

    ReplyDelete
  28. Begin the discussion on sidewalk dining and use. At the italian restaurant on 101 and D, the tables and extra chairs take up most of the sidewalk. A court may find this to be in violation of ADA requirements. If restaurants can extend their business square footage onto the public sidewalk, all the other downtown businesses should be allowed the same privilege with an equal amount of square footage.

    ReplyDelete
  29. screw the public.

    who needs a sidewalk!!

Let the taps flow and the parties begin!

after that lets start an effort to allow drinking again at the beaches.

A beer at the beach should be a birthright for all!

    ReplyDelete
  30. eeeuuuuuwww!

More sidewalk space for Leucadia merchants please. Wait! I mean more sidewalk space for pedestrian friendly corridors.

    ReplyDelete
  31. Private business want to take public sidewalks (our sidewalks)so that they can sell more booze and expand their restaurants?

    and this is good?

    ReplyDelete
  32. Building infrastructure and helping merchants is a great idea. Lets ask them to help share the costs.

  33. I like clowns, usually.

Sure, it would be icky to be followed around by anyone, but better a clown than a bunch of cops or other "government agents."

Public officials need to have thick skins.

Yes, there are a lot more important issues. I don't care so much about the statue. The red wig is funny.

I see Bob as being honest, and yeah, candid.

I do remember at one meeting at the Lumberyard Maggie's supporters ripped the clown's wig off and threw it in the fountain. I heard the clown was knocked down. That is unnecessary violence. People have been prosecuted for much less. And Sheila Cameron was denounced by Christy Guerin for much less.

The clown thing started after Maggie stopped to save a kitten during relay races in what was Hondo, Japan, our sister city.

Christy Guerin derided Maggie, made public statement in the press mocking her, and encouraged the clown to follow Maggie around through her development connections with the Eckes and David Meyer.

Dirty tricks continue with Briana Bilbray and Christy Guerin's daughter, and others. That, unfortunately, is the current state of politics.

Rumors are started with malicious intent. I wouldn't be surprised if some are being started by Jerome Stocks.

  35. It's time to move beyond the Maggie and Jerome show.

I'm voting for Bob, Rachelle, and the Judge.

    ReplyDelete
  36. Gail is right.

It IS time to move local politics from beyond the Houlihan/Stocks standoff!

The incumbents are trying to get on the other side of this election to cram the regional soccer touney fields down the throat of everyone in Encinitas, not just Cardiff. Rotary Cup anyone?

There will be five or six forums; make sure you attend as many as possible and bring your friends and neighbors.

Dalager's vision of 5 fields is his vision only, and he has been twisting arms of his own allies to make it happen.

Doug Long doesn't even have the support of his fellow DEMA board members or fellow Parks and Rec members. What does that tell you?

Long had to be told by his friends to stop attending EVERY meeting of the council because he was beginning to look like a stalker to citizens watching the televised council meetings at home.

Bob, Rachelle and Helen or Betsy just might redirect the Council in a healthy direction.

But Long has raised the most money!

  37. doug attends every meeting but never speaks at the podium except to present some downtown 101 advertisement. Wutz up with that?

  38. Doug Long is creepy!
