Why No Final Resting Place for Encinitas?

Yesterday a fellow I know (we'll call him Quetzalcoatl) made a half joking comment that the Hall property, instead of a controversial sports complex, would be a great location for a town cemetery. I was stunned, it's so genius, so perfect of an idea. Encinitas has no town cemetery, no final resting place for all you locals who have invested all of your lives into making Encinitas such a great place to live. It's outrageous. How does a town with such a long and rich history not have an established central cemetery? Let the campaign begin for a town cemetery and all the hot disputed lands will be considered; the Hall property, the Ecke Prop A property, Pacific View, Quail Gardens, Olivenhain, etc.

  1. You commune with your town when you walk. I walk everywhere, it brings enlightenment.

The city does have a cemetery. One is over off Manchester. The other is the old dump off Encinitas Blvd. I bury all my old relatives there. Nobody seems to mind.

  2. Ecke Prop A property?
Good grief, a whole meaning for "in perpetuity."

  3. JP- this is a million dollar idea!!

Go for the future "hipster milliennials demographic".

Name the cemetery, "Blaze Of Glory".

    Some names for the sites:

    "Death Warmed Over"
    "Tall, Dark, and Dead"
    "Dead Weight"
    "Die Pussycat! Kill! Kill!"
    "Die Hards"

Those plots ain't cheap. I wonder what kind of dough the city could get from a business such as this? hmmmmm? In a few years- PLENTY!!!

  4. The grave markers could be solar. But I'd be afraid of how unknown chemicals dumped there over the years might react with the recent dead.

  5. Bond's updated campaign slogan would have to be "A great place to live, work, play and die."

  6. Love.It.

And here is a link to a nifty way to put your remains to good use - and get more trees! I am serious.

  7. Maybe we could start by burying Stocks and Bonds this upcoming election.

  8. Solient Trees. So much better than stinky, wormy bodies in a $10,000 coffin. Count me in.

  9. We should dedicate it to Jerome stocks. He's killing me.

  10. Has anyone heard the rumor that Maggie is spreading about Dr. Lorri being untrustworthy? Is it true? Maybe she is not on our side.

  11. Anybody heard the rumor about the "anon" poster worried about Maggie spreading rumors?

  12. Unfortunately, there has been a rumor floating around that seems to suggest that Maggie Houlihan does not think that I am trustworthy. Why she think that, I do not know. I have always been a Maggie supporter, and have given money in the past to her campaigns. I have attempted to reach her, but to no avail. I would ask any of you to please let me know what you hear and backchannel me if you would. Your name will not be used, that I promise you. As a psychologist this rumor, can affect my livlihood. My professional reputation depends on keeping my clients confidentiality. I hope that if any of my clients read this blog, you know I would NEVER vilolate your trust or confience. I can get sued for it, as it is unethical and illegal. My clients are people in this community. Therefore, I would ask anone who knows Maggie to ask her to please retract this information in some sort of public format-or on this blog. As you can all imagine, this is very hurtful to me, as I have no idea what the allegations are. My e-mail address for anyone who has infomration they would be willing to share is: lgreene98@aol.com. My phone is 760-436-6798. Thank you so much.

  13. I think she meant Dr. Laura, that psycho dingbat on the radio.

  14. Dr. Lorri- Call her at her city hall no. 633-2600. Leave a message and she will call you.

  15. The cemetery in Olivenhain, off Manchester, is for Olivenhain original residents ONLY! My parents are buried there and I even have a final resting place for me. Encinitas needs to get their own and not hord in on Olivenhain. I hear the ocean makes a wonderful place if you are cremated!

  16. Dr.Lorri- everyone on this blog knows you are trustworthy, you need not worry.

  17. Thanks for the vote of confidence RSPB. However, not everyone reads this blog and I have already had one client ask about it. I am more stunned than anything and really do not know what to do about it. Any advice will be appreciaed. I have attempted to call all numbers. I have also e-mailed her and spoken to Teresa and Bruce, her campaign manager. So far, no word from Maggie. I don't want to hurt her chances of winning this election. The citizens need her, so I will not post anything more about this on the blog. Any help. please call me or backchannelel Again my number is 760-436-6798 or 760-519-5215 or lgreene98@aol.com

  18. Dr.Lorri- If Maggie Houlihan does not find you trustworthy, fear not, you are in good company. I doubt she finds me trustworthy either.

I find you trustworthy and you can consider that a ringing endorsement!!
You have helped me through this blog and you didn't even know it, but thank you!!

  19. The Olivenhain cemetary has a fence around it because people are dying to get in. Old timer locals can get in,those lucky stiffs.

  20. Dr. Lorri, Maggie has never said that about you, period. You raised some eyebrows in certain circles when you questioned Rachelle's bid for council on this blog, (even mine) but your integrity was never in question. It's just part of that campaign hurricane crap that'll be around till November.

Whomever is posting rumors as "anon" on this blog is not trust worthy. Since this is election season, the smearing has begun. I remember I saw the late Jack Orr in some TV show and he put it very nicely: "It's not an election. It's WAR".

  22. Just for you...Olivehain is part of Encinitas!!!

  23. Maybe Encinitas is more of a cremation sort of town. I'll bet the oceans is full of cremation ashes. I know I'd rather be cremated than buried in a cemetery, but I'll find an alternative to the ocean for my ashes (I rarely go in the ocean alive, let alone once dead). But I'll bet we don't have a crematorium...there's a business opportunity for someone!

  24. Many acres shaded by oak trees would be lovely for memorial plaques. No coffins or bodies required.

  25. Dr. Lorri: speculation and trepidation equals stupidulation... If Maggie didn't call you directly, then this is just blogspawn.

  26. It's horrible that Maggie didn't call Dr Lorri... Horrible on Maggie's part to be that way...

  27. If true, an comment of being untrustworthy is rather tepid and mild as far as politics go.

Dr. Lorri, unfortunatly all who serve publicly, as you do, or who are publicly active, as you are, will be critized and called things occasionally.

Items that you vote for as a parks commisioner will be unpopular to a percentage of the population, that percentage will be angry with you and some will stop patronizing your business. Never mix up critisim of you with critisism of your proffesion. You wil never be able to sleep!

Public service has a price to pay. One has to have a thick skin. A comment of untrustworthy in the midst of the political season is childs play.

Thanks for being active and invloved.

  28. I would Trust Dr. Lorri long beforei would trust Maggie "Walgreen" Houlihan.

  29. I can't decide if I want to be buried or cremated. Is there a difference once you're dead? My parents are buried and I know where to find their remains but rarely do so. Any thoughts?

  30. I'm going to have my head preserved in a jar on a shelf at Caldwell's Antiques.

  31. How about next to the tracks on both sides from one end of town to the other. Room enough for everybody!

  32. Thanks J.P. I'll have to charge 50 cents for a peek at the blog head...
