Why doesn't Encinitas have a 4th of July fireworks display???

We have been a city since 1986 and still no official fireworks display for the 4th of July. Dear city leaders, you spend a lot of money on pet projects and always speak of how Encinitas is a family friendly city. Get it together and organize a fireworks barge off Moonlight Beach for next year.
A Festive Fourth: In spite of the economy, most cities are still planning fireworks for Independence Day

  1. See if Busby will pay for one. She just got a bunch of money!

  2. I remember back in the 80's before incorporation, going up to the area by Oak Crest middle school and watching fireworks. I don't recall if they were there or out over the ocean.Haven't seen them in Encinitas since.

  3. Get an independant audit of our city. That oughta start up some fireworks!

  4. You are right about that Mary. Only it will not happen with the 3 unwise men on the Council. Term limits are the answer, IMHO. Dr. Lorri said she would look up stuff. I hope she posts it on the blog.

  5. Get real. Here are the reasons there will never be fireworks in Encinitas:
    * No One Could Agree About Where
    or When to Have Them
    * Meals on Wheels Would Prove They
    Could Feed 5000 Elderly Instead
    * Sheriffs Would Require More
    Overtime, Ammo and Pepperspray
    * The Fire Department Would
    Request a Sixth Station
    * Too Many Here Like Dark Skys
    * Fear of Air Polution
    * Local Communists & Socialists
    Would Find it Unconstitutional
    * Fear of Global Warming
    * Upsetting People's Dogs
    * Frivolous Usage of Tax Dollars
    * Calling the Event St. Elmo's and
    the City Gets Sued for Violating
    Separation of Church and State.
    * Agravating Aviara and Del Mar
    * Disturbing the Peace After 8PM
    with Too Much Noise, like a
    Lesbian on a Bullhorn.

  6. Let's help out OceansideJuly 02, 2009 5:10 PM

    LOL Meathead. Sadly you're too right on many accounts.

    Our family has traditionally headed up north to Oceanside, where we watch the fireworks from the pier. It's fantastic. You can see the fireworks from Laguna Beach down to La Jolla. Sadly Oceanside isn't having fireworks this year, due to the cost. It would be great if each of the coastal towns north of La Jolla chip in something and help Oceanside put on a show next year. It would also be great if somehow we could run buses up and won the coast on the fourth of July, so that the usual horrendous traffic jam could be avoided.

    Maggie, Bond, Stocks and Danny have been running this city for a long time but failed to produce a 4th of July celebration. Even fancy pants Miss America Christy Guerin failed.

  10. THE CITY OF ENCINITAS HATES AMERICA AND HATES YOUR CHILDREN.

  11. Why waste money on a City celebration? Can you people enjoy yourself without government intervention?

    WTF?

    Go up to Neptune and look at the bluff top folks who gladly pay for a show.

    What a bunch of dependents. Remember- YOU ARE AMERICAN!

    Let Freedom Ring!!!!!

  12. When I was a kid, back in the olden days, we were allowed to have sparklers and lots of good stuff to shoot off. Our dads set off the fireworks on our street. If this was the true American, we could still so this. We have so many rules and regulations, no one knows what is what anymore. Kind of sad.

  13. Soon to be retiredJuly 03, 2009 9:43 AM

    Common get real. The City cannot afford fireworks.

    It needs to save all of our money to pay for my retirement along with 200 of my fellow employees.

    I don't know about them, but I am retiring next year. And I will try and squeak by $106,432 a year in retirement pay for the rest of my life. I am 61 and will hopefully live another 20 years. I am not worried that my stocks have crashed because I will be getting over $2 million dollars from my retirement…… I know its not that much compared to what our last Fire Chief is pulling in a month and I won’t get all expense trips to Japan, but I will have to make do.

    Now remember folks. Your taxes are going to have to start paying for more of me and my colleague’s pensions so stop all this nonsense about spending money on new projects.
    You see the state investment fund that oversees the pension, lost 40% of the funds to the stock market crash. Luckily we work for the government, so what that means is YOU pay for the loss. I still get the same and your taxes make up the difference!!!! BINGO!!!!

    Happy 4th of July Encinitas. I love you and thanks for the awesome pension forever!!!! See you at Disneyland!!!!!

    A special thanks to Phil Cotton and Jerome Stocks for making our huge pension dream come too really two years ago! Our union sure knows who to grease. You two deserve a special city award for rewarding us hard working City Employees. God bless you all Council. You are god divine.

  14. 9:43 - I think you made a mistake. You will be getting $106,432 a year ADJUSTED FOR INFLATION in retirement pay for the rest of your life. So, do plan on a 5% or so raise every year.

    I think you also will get some good supplmenental health insurance.

    Have a good retirement!

    Oh Yeah- I forgot. Yippy! I don't have to pay for anything!!!

    And to think the reason I took this job to cruise through life with no real responsibilities and zero accountability. I had no idea it would be soooooo lucrative.

    Thanks Jerome Stocks and Phil Cotton! You two are like gods to me and all the City Employees. Thank you for listening so well to our Union Bosses and for giving us everything they asked for!

    Happy 4th! God Bless America...Land where everything is free....or something like that.

  16. Interesting. I took this job for long lunch hours, short working hours, long breaks, 26 long weekends. I love Jerome and make sure his campaigns are well funded. It's a great investment in my future, much better than saving money.

  17. Jerome Stocks. The biggest scum bag this side of the Mississippi. He should be put up on trial for Treason against his own Citizens. True Americans wouldn't put up with his shit. Encinitas voters are pure pussies.

  18. Why post anonymously. If you think Jerome is that bad why don't you put your name to it? Many talk, how many take action?

  19. Must be the guy hiding behind a tree at Busby's party. But then again, how many people use their real name to hide what they really are?
