Streetscape!

I know a lot of people are upset about details of the Streetscape, but think back to a few years ago when the city was on the brink on declaring Leucadia BLIGHTED and were going to hand private property over to developers.
We should be stoked on our new Streetscape. Don't worry, be happy.

  1. Build it and they will come! Next how about some at grade crossings and a bike/trail the entire length of Vulcan on NCTD's dime please. Then we will have true walkability. It be nice if the City could put a few more cross walks on Vulcan too.

  2. Who is upset with the details of the streetscape?? Who is upset with the thought of more flowers, more trees, less noise, slower speeds. Streetlights sidewalks and a safe and effective bike lane.

Roundabouts that work. Someone is opposed to that?? I'm speechless.

I can't help but wonder about Leucadians that oppose a nice and safe Hwy 101. Well to all you people that are unhappy, Merry Christmas to you.

  3. To Santa,

I guess you weren't at the "streetscape workshops" because a lot of people were concerned and chastised for their concern.

Some of the concerned people live on Vulcan. Some live on Neptune.

They asked for safe residential streets without cut through traffic avoiding the 101.

  4. Leucadia had flooding problems. Were the flooding problems fixed or not?

  5. Speaking of at grade crossings, is this really ever going to happen? I can't wait to stop getting stopped for cross the double tracks in Cardiff.

  6. Its should, but when special interested get elected, they are only interested in their special interest issues. In our case, the majority currently on council are specifically focused on preserving Council and Staff Pensions and Pay, Developer interests, and huge Sports Complex to subsidize the costs of private sports leagues to increase their profit at the expense of the tax payers and the community.

Its that simple. Next election, open your wallet and support good candidates. Either way, your going to pay.

  7. Amtrak/NCTD needs to step up! Jerome, you sit on their board and do nothing for us on this issue. It is time to fix Vulcan from Leucadia to Cardiff. This is a safety issue for all Encinitas citizens. Work with us Jerome if you really care for all of us.

  8. I'm disappointed that Orpheus Avenue was never considered as a cut-thru/short-cut and addressed. It's already way beyond it's capacity for a surface street. It's a bus stop for Santa Fe Christian school, drop off point for Paul Ecke Central School, Dog Park 5 days a week plus a local commuter thoroughfare. Now add additional traffic to skirt around construction and the eventual restrictions of 101 then, throw in I-5 expansion. Great planing.

  11. I am more than stoked! Even though it will be years before the whole project reaches completion, it is my hope that the first stage reaps benefits for the entire corridor with commuters opting for other paths. Slow down the speeders and bring on the bikes, skate boards, strollers, joggers, shoppers, and meet your neighbors! Very psyched!

  12. I agree with Eddie,

Traffic should get off the main arterials and get onto our residential streets.

  14. No one has mentioned street scape for a while. It's fun to watch people in this town have conniptions over any civic improvement that might effect their 'quality of life' or worse their real estate values. The reality is time will not stand still and I for one (mostly) applaud the evolution of Leucadia, Encinitas and Cardiff in dealing with the population growth and traffic that comes with it. And I look forward to the street scape.
