Worky worky at the Swamis tunnel.

  1. I look forward to having a safer and more pleasant route for cyclists and pedestrians.

  2. I look forward for more habitat for the trolls and molesters. Nicely done Encinitas. So you decided to bury people over burying the train like Solana Beach did. I think our council is on the wrong train.

  3. Overkill. People will still cross the tracks, rather than walk some distance to access this underpass -the quickest route is a straight line theory. Maybe the money should have gone to the Hall Park instead.

  4. Observor is right. Total overkill. We could have had at least five at grade crossings for the price of a tunnel. Someone else made a great point as well, it does no good to have crossings at the tracks when there are no crosswalks on Vulcan or 101.

  5. Manachevitz, that's gonna be some submerged passageway. And one sharp drop to get to the bottom. Unless they zig-zag the hell out of the Vulcan side. Would like to see a time elapsed film of HOW they're going to excavate underneath a barreling 300 ton train and it not cave in. I still don't understand why they would put a pedestrian underpass that ended up at a four lane highway where there is no crossing. Unless they plan on putting big honkin' traffic lights in front of the main lotus tower at SRF. (Classy!)So much for this 5 million dollar safety idea. What a stellar example of governmental ineptness.

  6. Not a city project- SANDAG/NCTD. At grade crossings would require the trains to blast the horns. We have enough of those already. This will be better than the status quo.

  7. This will be an ADA nightmare for the city. It's going to be a money pit. I would rather have wayside horns and at grade crossings. Very few people will use this access on a regular basis. Most people are just going to continue to cross the tracks like they do already.

  8. You're right peaches. SANDAG and NCTD are above the government with their powers of eminent domain. Appologies to most other government employees who don't endorse this kind of waste. When the day is done though the tax payer is caught by the short hairs at 5 million per undercrossing as opposed to the easy fix. It could be far worse. They could buy a high speed rail through California. I do agree that the less horny a town is the better.

  9. They should have built a pedestrian overpass closer to the parking lot on Vulcan/E St. to facilitate the movement of people into the downtown area. There is little pedestrian traffic on Santa Fe and Vulcan, no sidewalks on the other side - why was it placed here and so close to a historic structure (Golden Lotus Dome)? Not good planning at all !

  10. 1. Change the stupid law that requires trains to blow their horns.
    2. Install multiple at-grade crossings.
    3. Install flashing light poles exactly like the one at Encinitas Station
    5. Install audible alerts exactly like the "Wait...wait...wait" that are currently in use at the major 101 cross streets downtown.

#1. You keep coming up with these cocamayme ideas that don't create temporary great paying jobs.
#2. Are you running for council later this year?

  12. City council?! I can't even count to 4!
